Wonder Balm from Vemel

Did you know the way in which you shower can significantly impact the health of your skin and hair?
From the water temperature, how long we spend in the shower and the products we choose to include in our routines – the long term impact can be more than we realise. But with a few simple tweaks your hair and skin could be well on its way to its best self. And as they say, it’s all in the prep (and post!) care we show it. But showing your skin and scalp love doesn’t have to mean an entire shelf of products, so we’ve compiled a few tips worth trying out during your usual shower routine to not only prevent damage, but also make improvements.

Prep Is Crucial
The best shower routine starts before even stepping into the shower. When we think of hair care, our minds naturally drift to thoughts of shampoos and conditioners and perhaps a post wash treatment. But using a pre-wash scalp & hair treatment is an often overlooked yet highly effective way to nurture the roots of the hair. The Vemel Marigold Nectar Hair and Body Oil does just that, and ticks all the boxes whilst doing it. This ceramide rich and deeply nourishing oil harnesses the power of the Marigold flower, as well as other skincare gems plucked from nature to deliver you the very best results – the likes of Jojoba and Cranberry Oil as well as Pomegranate Extract create the perfect blend for the hair pre and post shower, as well as serving as a luxury body oil. At Vemel our relentless dedication to creating a natural product with the health of the skin and hair at the very forefront made it all the more special to be announced as a finalist for the ‘Best New Natural Hair and Body Product’ for the 2023 Pure Beauty Global Awards. And as always, we hope this recognition can mean we are able to further our cause of delivering high quality, natural, vegan skin and hair care without compromise to all those looking for it. And for those of you already on this journey with us, we’re forever grateful. To make the most of our Marigold Nectar Hair and Body Oil, try it as a pre-wash scalp treatment by simply applying the oil directly onto the scalp, or section off the hair and apply around half a teaspoon of oil per section into the scalp. Then leave for between 20-60 minutes for the oil to get to work before rinsing out with your regular shampoo.
Leaving it to work into the scalp allows the oil to serve as a hair mask treatment, even just a quick 20-30 minutes before your shower will have your hair feeling softer and silkier post shower.
Alternatively, if you’d like a more intensive treatment you can leave the oil in overnight, use up to three times per week. So when it comes to versatility, this oil is really doing the most – meaning it’s the perfect holiday multi purpose product, all in a single bottle.

Shower Temperature – It Matters
Ever noticed your fingers looking shriveled and wrinkly by the time you step out the shower? That’s a sign of the moisture in our skin being quite literally stripped out. And whilst we all love a hot shower before bed to unwind for the evening (particularly in the colder nights!) it turns out our skin isn’t actually loving it. It’s been found that any already existing condition where the skin barrier is compromised is worsened when under hot water for a prolonged period. As certified dermatologist Shari Marchbein describes it, hot showers “strip the skin of sebum, the healthy fats and oils necessary for skin health and dehydrates the skin”. In fact, this applies even to those with healthy skin barriers, as the stripping of our natural oils weakens our skin barriers natural defence, and can even affect our hair. This is because long periods of exposure to hot water can strip away our protective lipid layer which not only holds moisture in, but also keeps bacteria out. Opting for a warm shower, and stepping out a few minutes earlier can make a world of difference to the skin and hair, and yet is an easy achieved adjustment.

Cleanse Post Shower, Always!
Another common shower ritual is to cleanse your face whilst in the shower. And whilst it may be convenient with the water already running to just grab your cleanser, it’s definitely not in your skin’s favour to do so. When cleansing in the shower it’s very likely you’ll end up with some shampoo or conditioner running down your face and potentially clogging your pores. Avoid the risk by doing your cleanse once you step out the shower and can be sure you won’t be left with product left sitting on the surface of the skin.

Rehydrate With A Post Shower Body Oil
Once you step out the shower, avoid the temptation to dry off and get dressed instantly, instead give your body the care it deserves by spending just a few minutes to apply a hydrating and moisturising body oil. Marigold Nectar doubles up as a deeply nourishing body oil which puts the moisture back into the skin, whilst simultaneously delivering an abundance of vitamins and antioxidants to keep the good stuff in and the bad stuff out. Simply massage onto damp skin to maximise hydration properties and with consistent use you can achieve soft supple skin which is retaining all the moisture.

Ultimately, improving your shower hair and body care routine doesn’t require a total overhaul of your existing approach, but rather a few adjustments and perhaps just a multipurpose product that’s got things covered – to take the guess work out of good skin.
