Because Wellness is Personal: Glyphosate, Cancer & The Fight for Safer Future
At Vemel, wellness means more than just healthy skin. It’s about the everyday choices that protect our health long-term. Through our Wellness Corner, we share stories and research that connect the dots between what we put on our skin, what we eat, and how we live. This month, a powerful new global study confirms what we’ve long suspected: glyphosate, the world’s most widely used pesticide, may be harming us far more than we’ve been told.
Glyphosate: Why It Matters
A landmark 2025 study led by the Ramazzini Institute and published in Environmental Health has revealed that glyphosate and glyphosate-based herbicides may cause cancer, even at levels currently deemed “safe.” The study, which involved global scientists including Professor Michael Antoniou of King’s College London, found links between glyphosate and leukaemia, lymphoma, and endocrine disruption.
Let that sink in: the same pesticide sprayed on our food, our parks, even our children’s playgrounds, may be linked to serious health concerns—including cancer.
What Is Glyphosate Used On?
Glyphosate is used on a wide range of conventional crops including wheat, oats, barley, lentils, soy, and corn. It’s applied as a pre-harvest desiccant or to kill weeds around genetically modified (GM) crops. But it’s not limited to agriculture. It’s also sprayed on:
-
Public parks
-
Pavements and school grounds
-
Lawns and recreational areas
Often, this happens without public warning, leaving families unknowingly exposed.

Why This Hits Home for Us
Vemel wasn’t built on a business plan. It was born from lived experiences my own battle with endometriosis, and losing my mum to cancer. These weren’t just personal moments. They became a mission: to eliminate every unnecessary toxic exposure from our lives, starting with skincare.
Many people today are told they’re gluten intolerant or suffering from eczema triggered by wheat. But what if it’s not the wheat at all? What if it’s the pesticide residues we’re ingesting and absorbing through our skin? Glyphosate disrupts hormone balance, weakens the immune system, and leaves our skin more vulnerable to inflammation, dehydration, and damage.

How We Can All Take Action
We may not be able to regulate global pesticide use, but we can take powerful steps in our own homes:
- Choose certified organic food when possible
- Wash produce thoroughly or swap high-residue items for lower-residue alternatives
- Grow your own herbs or salad greens, even on a windowsill
- Choose organic skincare free from pesticides, fragrance, hormone disruptors, and synthetics
At Vemel, our products are made with sustainably grown botanicals, waterless for potency, and crafted without any toxins or synthetic fragrance because what goes on your skin should reflect what you believe in.
Our vision has always been clear: clean skincare that delivers results, without compromise. This study only deepens our resolve. Because wellness is personal. Because the future matters.
