We all notice that our skin changes, along with the weather, throughout the year – but the heat and extra sun exposure can require a little more care to keep our skin protected and healthy. Particularly those of us with sensitive skin, whether that be rosacea, eczema, or just reactive skin; need to take a few extra steps to stop any unwanted flares up. And by now, we’ve hopefully all got our SPF ready to go, but might still have a few questions about what more we should be doing. So, here are a few simple steps to keep in mind as we all soak up some much-needed vitamin D.
1.KEEP YOUR BODY AND SKIN HYDRATED
Just as we try to ensure we’re getting enough water throughout the day to keep ourselves hydrated in the heat, our skin is also at risk of increased dehydration when exposed to the sun. The more dehydrated our skin is, the more exposed our skin is to experience flare ups of sunburn, acne and irritation. Applying a moisturiser in regular intervals to ensure our body is nourished and our skin barrier is protected can help prevent these issues from occurring in the first place. The Vemel Daily Moisturising Face Butter, combines a powerful blend of Mango Butter with Jojoba and Argan Oil to provide long lasting nourishment whilst helping to soothe our skin throughout the day – making it the perfect product to ensure consistent hydration for our skin.
2. LOOK FOR UVA/UVB FIGHTING INGREDIENTS
When we think of protecting our skin from the harsh impact the sun can have, we know SPF is our best friend. But what a lot of us don’t know is that there are other highly beneficial ingredients out there that can also act as a barrier against UVA/UVB rays. Ever heard of micro and macro algae? Don’t worry, most people haven’t – but with the benefits it offers you’ll be glad you do now. It is essentially an antioxidant dense algae that absorbs significant amounts of UVA and UVB rays, helping to protect the skin from (and reverse the signs of) ageing as a result of sun damage. The Vemel Advanced Protective Serum not only consists of micro and macro algae, it also includes gems like Plum Kernel Oil to fight free radicals and nourish the skin back to its best self.
3. PICK AN ALUMINIUM FREE, NATURAL DEODORANT
A lot of people find themselves suffering from prickly heat in the summer – so we can find we’re breaking out with red itchy spots all over our body. The cause of this is usually that our sweat ducts have been blocked by products we have applied, like deodorant or lotions. Switching out your deodorant for one which doesn’t include aluminium, a pore clogging ingredient, can help reduce the likelihood of experiencing prickly heat in the first place. The Vemel Soothing Deodorant Balm, free from aluminium, but filled with soothing oat and coconut oil helps absorb the bodies natural perspiration, without clogging your pores.
4. PREPARE FOR SKINCARE EMERGENCIES
As much as we can try to ensure we keep our SPF topped up every two hours, and try to seek shade where we can, we can still find ourselves looking a little more red than golden. So, rather than go into a frenzy thinking we have nothing on hand to resolve it, be prepared with a product to help soothe the skin and keep it calm when it shows signs of being a little aggravated. Something with a little versatility like the Vemel Wonder Balm, does just that. Perfect for those of us struggling with eczema, minor sun burn and general dry skin concerns, it’s the perfect little family hero to have on hand.
Ultimately, whilst our SPF is doing the bulk of the work when we spend time out in the sun, there are definitely plenty of ways to care for our skin, all the while relaxing in the sun. And as we take the time to put in a little extra care, our skin is sure to reward our efforts with a healthy, glowing complexion.
